A Not So Turkish Life

What a difference a year makes

As a mother, I’m constantly taken aback by the simplicity of the most magical of scenes. Thinking back on the past 15months as M’s Mum, the moments which spring to the forefront of my mind are the simplest of ones – the speediest of coffee shop dates, watching the intensity of M learning a new skill, his sheer delight in a taste new to him, and those spent in nature, viewing our surrounding, hearing waterfalls through the eyes and the ears of a babe.

Last summer we spent many an afternoon in the Japanese Gardens in Baltalimani, lying on the grass, feeling the blades slide through our fingers being lulled to sleep and to calmness by the tranquillising crescendo of the fountains. This summer, we explore the fountains water, revel in the contrast of textures between toes, the warmth of the stones on bare feet. This summer, our everyday moments are so different to the last, yet every single bit as precious as before.
