A Not So Turkish Life

Livin’ on a prayer

I’m not ashamed to admit that Bon Jovi being in Istanbul next month excites me rather a lot! I know that, much as I’d love to see baby and I rocking on down with a ring sling, the concert’s not going to happen, but you never know when you’ll randomly bump into someone! (Humour me: it could happen)

If we were making the show it’d be this song I’d be looking forward to most, cliche though it is. This song takes me back to university…days the same for us all – crazy spontaneous nights out, laughing ’til your face ached, dancing ’til the sweat ran off in streams. It’s a cliche song. It’s a song full for the optimism of youth, the optimism for friendships that are going to last forever and dreams that will never fade. If we knew then what we know now, would we have laughed any less, or maybe danced all the more?

There are few friendships meant to last a lifetime; that’s what makes those that do, precious. And those university day dreams? You take your dreams with you, changing them as you change, reshuffling the die. But though the dreams we dream now are bigger and fuller than we could possibly have known, it’s good to remember those simpler dreams once in a while, shake down your hair and dance ’til the sweat runs down… Or baby wakes up, whichever comes first 😉
